~ Maggie's Poem ~

I won't be gone "THAT" long

Mom saw that I was getting weak, and a cure was not for me.
Her broken heart already knew, the end was soon to be.

I told her I was ready, and she loved enough to hear,
The silent pleas I gave to her, all so loud and clear.

She put her arms around me and said "Maggie, come along with me"
My time had come for peaceful rest, so lonely Mom will be.

Through tearful eyes and cracking voice, she helped me one more time.
To climb into that big ole' car, that I loved so many times.

Away we went for one last ride. So hard this is for Mom.
Little does she know, although,

I won't be gone "that" long.

In her gentle arms I lay, so loved and so secure.
She kissed my muzzle tenderly and whispered
"God, I love you so."

Our eyes met and I said Thanks, her tears ran down my face.
I never really meant, to put Mom in this place.

I quietly and gently relaxed into her arms,
Then headed off across the ridge and found the
"Rainbow Bridge."

It feels so good to run and play with all the others here!
I miss you Mom, but take your time, cuz I'll be waiting near.

And on the day that I look up and see your loving smile,
I'll run to you with wagging tail and we will play a while.

Then off we'll go, across the Bridge, together again at last,
Where there's no tears or sad good-byes, and then we'll have a blast!

See there Mom, I told you so,

I wasn't  gone "THAT" long.
